The trauma of abortion is unlike any other. It affects women and men, young and old. All the complications that led to the decision, and the effects that follow, can create feelings that seem impossible to resolve. Many people suffer in silence, thinking they’re alone in their pain.
Whether you’ve experienced an abortion first-hand, are close to someone who has been hurt by it, or worked in the industry and now regret your involvement, we are here for you. And we’re committed to helping you find healing and hope.
Our weekend retreats are safe places of reconciliation, forgiveness, and hope – where you can renew and rebuild your life and experience God’s love and compassion on a profound level. Here, you will find a supportive, confidential and non-judgmental environment with others going through the same painful post-abortive emotions. Many participants have told us that they’ve finally discovered forgiveness, peace, and emotional renewal after years of anger or pain.
Rachel’s Vineyard: Healing the pain of abortionTM is the world’s largest ministry for healing after abortion. In 1985, Dr. Theresa Burke started one of the first therapeutic support groups to help people recover from the emotional and spiritual aftermath of abortion. She began with free support groups for women whose emotional trauma had been ignored by family members, boyfriends, abortion providers, and the mental health community. When she realized that talking about abortion’s deep wounds was not enough, Dr. Burke blended counseling techniques with group therapy discussions, Living Scripture meditations, and somatic exercises to help them grieve the loss of their aborted children. Originally, these groups were held in 15-week sessions; by 1995, Dr. Burke adapted them into a weekend retreat format.
Married couples, mothers, fathers, grandparents, and siblings of aborted children, as well as persons who have been involved in the abortion industry, have come to Rachel’s VineyardTM retreats and have found comfort and inner healing.
Our trauma-sensitive weekends are offered in both Interdenominational and Catholic settings, as well as in Spanish.
